Leadlinks were a Leadpages feature that signed people up to a list or webinar the moment they clicked a link in an email, with no form to fill in. LeadDigits did something similar by text message: people texted a keyword to a short number and were opted in. Neither feature exists in Leadpages today. Leadpages renamed Leadlinks to trigger links, and its legacy builder retirement notice says trigger links and opt-in text campaigns stopped working on November 1, 2021. If you landed here from an old tutorial, the sections below explain what each feature did and how to get the same result now.
Current Status in Brief
- Leadlinks (trigger links): retired. No new ones from July 8, 2021; removed from accounts on November 1, 2021.
- LeadDigits (opt-in texts): retired on the same schedule.
- Leadboxes: still available, now called pop-ups.
- Replacements: your email service's click triggers, Leadpages hidden fields with URL prefill, and an SMS platform for text opt-ins.
What Leadlinks Did

Leadpages launched Leadlinks in 2014 for its top plan at the time. You chose the list or webinar to add people to and the email service that would send the message, and Leadpages generated a link containing your service's merge tags for name and email. When a subscriber clicked it, Leadpages read those details from the link, registered them and sent them to a thank-you page. The typical use was webinar registration: one click from a broadcast email and the subscriber was in. Because the sending service and the list could differ, partners could also share a Leadlink from their own email tool.
The Leadpages glossary later described them as trigger links (formerly Leadlinks), copied into broadcast emails so subscribers could register just by clicking. Some email services still publish help pages for connecting Leadlinks, but those describe a feature Leadpages no longer runs.
What LeadDigits Did
LeadDigits was Leadpages' text-to-opt-in tool. You set a keyword, and anyone who texted it to a Leadpages short number was opted in to your campaign. That made it useful anywhere a link was awkward: podcasts, radio, stage talks, events and print ads, which is also why it did not need a landing page. In its retirement notice, Leadpages listed opt-in texts among the retired features, suggested dedicated SMS providers with short codes or full-length numbers, and noted that major telecom carriers stopped supporting shared short codes on June 1, 2021.
When and Why They Were Retired
Both features belonged to Leadpages' original Standard (Legacy) Builder, which was retired in 2021 in three stages:
| Date (2021) | What changed |
|---|---|
| July 8 | No new legacy pages, pop-ups, trigger links or opt-in texts could be created. |
| September 1 | Existing legacy assets could no longer be edited, though they kept working. |
| November 1 | Legacy pages, pop-ups, trigger links, opt-in texts and their integrations stopped working and were removed. |
Legacy assets were not converted automatically, because the old and new builders used different technology. The Drag & Drop Builder that replaced it is the widget-based builder covered by today's Classic Builder help articles, and the newer Leadpages app is separate again. The Leadpages tutorial is the place to start with the current tools.

- Use your email service's link triggers. Leadpages' own retirement advice was to look to email services, CRMs or automation tools such as Zapier for one-click sign-ups. Many email tools let a click on a specific link add a tag or start an automation, which covers webinar and waitlist sign-ups for existing subscribers.
- Prefill a Leadpages form from the link. In the Classic Builder, give the form's email field a URL variable and, if you like, hide it with a default value. Link to yourpage?email= followed by your email service's email merge tag, and subscribers only need to click the submit button. The forms guide and tracking guide cover hidden fields and URL parameters.
- Send them to a short registration page. A single-field form on a Leadpages page connected to your webinar tool (see the email, CRM and webinar integrations guide) takes seconds to complete and records the conversion in Leadpages analytics.
Alternatives to LeadDigits for Text Opt-Ins
For text-to-join campaigns, sign up with an SMS marketing platform that provides a keyword and number, and let it collect the phone number and consent. If you also want email addresses, have the SMS reply link to a Leadpages page with a short form, where you can deliver the promised download (see lead magnet delivery). Zapier lists Leadpages connections to SMS tools, so form submissions can be passed on without code. Check the consent rules for text marketing in each country you send to before launching.
Still Seeing Leadlinks in Old Emails?
Links generated before the retirement no longer register anyone. If old autoresponder emails still contain them, replace each one with a link to a live registration page or an email service click trigger, and test the sequence again. To see what Leadpages offers now instead, read the Leadpages features overview.

Are Leadlinks still available in Leadpages?
No. Leadlinks were later called trigger links, and Leadpages' legacy builder retirement notice says trigger links stopped working and were removed from accounts on November 1, 2021. Neither the Classic Builder nor the new builder offers them.
Can I still use LeadDigits?
No. The retirement notice lists opt-in text campaigns, the text-message sign-ups LeadDigits provided, among the features that stopped working on November 1, 2021. Leadpages pointed users to other SMS services, noting that major carriers dropped shared short codes in June 2021.
How do I download my LeadDigits data?
Leadpages says retired legacy assets were removed from accounts on November 1, 2021, so there is no LeadDigits export inside Leadpages today. Leads from those campaigns went to whichever email service or CRM the campaign was connected to, so look there.
Did you need a landing page to use LeadDigits?
No. LeadDigits worked by texting a keyword to a short number, so people could opt in from a radio spot, a stage or a printed ad without visiting a page. Today the closest setup pairs an SMS tool with a short Leadpages form.
What is the best replacement for Leadlinks?
Most email services now offer their own click-to-subscribe or link-trigger automations. Inside Leadpages, a page whose hidden email field is prefilled from the link gets close: subscribers click once to land and once to confirm. The forms guide covers hidden fields.
