Leadpages digital asset delivery means getting an ebook, PDF, checklist or other file to people right after they opt in. Leadpages used to do this with a built-in lead magnet tool, but its help center now lists that tool as a legacy feature: accounts created after January 10, 2025 do not have it. If your account is newer, deliver the file from a thank-you page, from your email service, or both. This guide gives the steps for each route, plus the legacy setup for accounts that still see it.
Three Ways to Deliver a File
- Thank-you page download: the form sends visitors to a page with a download button. Instant, and it works on every plan.
- Email delivery: your email service sends the file link in a welcome message. Best for double opt-in and follow-up sequences.
- Legacy lead magnet tool: Leadpages emails the file itself. Only on accounts created before January 10, 2025.
Which Delivery Route Should You Use?

| Route | Who can use it | Speed | Works with double opt-in | Proves the email is real |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Thank-you page download | Every account | Immediate | Yes (file is not gated by confirmation) | No |
| Email service delivery | Accounts with a connected email tool | Seconds to minutes | Yes, sent after confirmation | Yes |
| Thank-you page plus email | Every account with an email tool | Immediate, with a copy in the inbox | Yes | Partly |
| Legacy lead magnet tool | Accounts created before Jan 10, 2025 | Seconds | No | Yes |
Leadpages itself recommends sending lead magnets through an email service or CRM, since those tools handle follow-ups and nurturing. The combined route is a sensible default: people get the file at once, and the email copy means they can find it again later.
Step 1: Host the File Somewhere Linkable
Outside the legacy tool, Leadpages' help center does not describe a place to upload a PDF for public download, so the file needs a home with a stable link. Common choices are cloud storage with link sharing turned on, the media library of your own website, or the file storage some email services offer. Whatever you pick, check three things:
- The link opens without a login for someone outside your organization.
- The file name is clean (your-guide-2026.pdf), since visitors see it when they save it.
- You can replace the file later without changing the link, so old emails keep working.
A PowerPoint deck downloads as a .pptx file that needs presentation software to open; exporting a PDF copy usually makes the download easier for everyone. Ebooks can be offered as both PDF and EPUB on the same page. If you are still building the offer page itself, see ebook landing pages, white paper landing pages or book landing pages for authors.
Step 2: Build the Thank-You Page With a Download Button
- Create the page. In the Classic Builder, open Landing Pages, click Create New Landing Page and filter templates by Thank You & Confirmation. In the new builder, create a page or add one to your site.
- Add a clear button labelled with what they get, such as "Download the Checklist (PDF)".
- Link the button to the file. In the Classic Builder, choose Link to an external URL, paste the file link and tick open in a new window. In the new builder, select the Button block and set its link to the file's address.
- Count the click (Classic Builder): turn on counting the button click as a conversion if you want download numbers in Leadpages analytics. In the new app, element clicks can be tracked as conversions.
- Add the next step under the button, such as a call booking link or a short offer, then publish the page.
Leadpages' default thank-you page cannot be edited, which is why a custom one is needed. The redirects and thank-you pages guide covers that setup in more detail.
Step 3: Connect the Form to the Thank-You Page
- Open the form. Classic Builder: hover over the form (often inside a pop-up) and click Edit Integrations. New builder: select the form and open Settings in the right panel.
- Set the destination. Classic: on the Actions tab, under "Send the visitor to", choose your thank-you page or an external URL. New builder: enter the page address as the Redirect URL under Form actions.
- Save and update the page, making sure the thank-you page is already published.
Same-page download: if you want the file to open the moment the form is submitted, point the after-submit destination straight at the file's URL instead of a page. It is the quickest route, though you lose the chance to show a next step. For form settings beyond this, see the Leadpages forms guide.

- Connect your email service to the form. Classic Builder: add it on the form's Integrations tab. New builder: go to Manage, then Connectors, connect the app, then create an automation that runs when the form is submitted on that page.
- Send leads to a dedicated list, tag or form for this offer, so the welcome email only goes to people who asked for the file.
- Write the welcome email in your email tool with the file link as a button, and trigger it when someone joins that list or tag.
- With double opt-in, send the file email after confirmation and tell people on the thank-you page to check their inbox.
- Test with a fresh email address on the live page, since some services ignore repeat sign-ups from existing subscribers.
Tool-specific steps are in Leadpages and MailerLite and the email and CRM integrations guide.
Content Upgrades Inside Blog Posts
A content upgrade offers a file that extends one specific article, such as a template for a how-to post. With Leadpages, build a standalone pop-up with a form, set its after-submit action to your download page, and publish it as a text link or button inside the post using the pop-up's publishing code. WordPress sites can place the same pop-up through the Leadpages WordPress plugin. Give each upgrade its own pop-up and email tag so you know which article produced the lead.
The Legacy Lead Magnet Tool (Older Accounts Only)
If your account predates January 10, 2025 and shows Lead Magnets in the account menu, the old tool still works. Leadpages describes it this way:
- Open Lead Magnets from the account navigation menu and create a new lead magnet.
- Name it and upload one file (any type, up to 250 MB; zip several files together) or paste an external URL.
- Fill in the sender fields and edit the email message and download button text, then save.
- Attach it to a form: open the form settings, go to Actions, add the lead magnet from the dropdown, click Save & Close and update the page.
The email comes from no-reply@notifications.leadpages.com, with replies going to your sender address. It does not wait for subscribers to confirm, so it does not suit double opt-in, and there is no direct download URL for the file: delivery is by email only. Replacing the file updates every connected form, but earlier versions cannot be restored. Because new accounts cannot use the tool, moving delivery to a thank-you page or email sequence now avoids a rebuild later.
Delivery Problems and Fixes
- "Access denied" on the file: the sharing setting is private; switch it to anyone with the link.
- No email arrived: check that the automation or list trigger matches the form, then the spam folder.
- Existing subscribers got nothing: many email tools skip welcome emails for people already on the list; keep the thank-you page download as a fallback.
- Downloads not counted: track the download button click as a conversion, or count thank-you page views.

Does Leadpages still deliver lead magnets?
Only for older accounts. Leadpages' help center says lead magnets are a legacy feature and accounts created after January 10, 2025 do not have access. Newer accounts deliver files from a thank-you page or through their email service.
Can you post a PDF on Leadpages?
Leadpages does not document a general file host for downloads outside the legacy lead magnet tool. Upload the PDF to cloud storage, your own website or your email tool's file library, then link to it from a button on your thank-you page or in your welcome email.
How do I make a file download on the same page in Leadpages?
Set the form's after-submit action to send visitors to the file's URL, or to a thank-you page with a download button. In the Classic Builder that is the Actions tab; in the new builder it is the Redirect URL under Form actions.
Can I deliver two downloads from one Leadpages form?
Yes. Put two download buttons on the thank-you page, or link both files in your welcome email. The legacy lead magnet tool takes one file per lead magnet, so Leadpages suggests zipping several files together if you use it.
What file types can I deliver?
With the thank-you page or email routes, any file your host serves, such as PDF, EPUB, PowerPoint, audio or video. The legacy tool accepts any file type up to 250 MB, or an external URL such as a Google Drive or Dropbox link.
Is the legacy lead magnet tool suitable for double opt-in?
No. Leadpages says its lead magnet email goes out without waiting for subscribers to confirm, so it does not suit double or confirmed opt-in. Deliver the file from your email service after confirmation instead.
